What are Podcasts?

Post 4 by elmira (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 01-Jul-2005 16:47:13

Podcasts are similar to radio programs, only you can listen to them when you have the time. When you install a podcasting client, such as Ipodder, you can subscribe to podcast feeds, and when you start your client it will check if the podcasts you are subscribed to have a new program available which you then can download with your client to your computer. They are called podcasts because they were originally meant to be listened to on an Ipod, but they come as mp3-files, so you can also listen to them on your computer or on another device that can play back mp3s. I prefer Podcasts to broadcasts because I can listen to them when I want to.

I like the Darcy and Holly show at the website www.darcyandholly.com. Also, I like the Cartoon Radio Network, Celebrity Vinyl Heaven, and the Audio Collective. Ad I should probably mention a local one from a radio show, and that's the Bob Rivers Show.

I'm starting up a podcast in about a week or so. I'm gonna attempt to produce a ten minute sketch comedy podcast per week. We'll see how that goes. I'd like to have the first one done by next wednesday. Who knows. hee. if you want to subscribe, the address is feeds.feedburner.com/sclass

I'm new to the podcast scene, and have, thus far, discovered a few I like: "thinking and driving", "Escape Pod", and "Icebox Radio Theater". The first is an audio blog with a self-explanitory title:). The second appears to be a weekly short sci-fi story or article. The third is some new "old-time radio" drama. There are others that I've found, such as the "one-world expedition", that I may update occasionally. Who knows, Perhaps, I'll get a minidisc recorder and talk to myself while walking and/or rowing.

Hahahaha,

-Dave

I just saw that the bbc offer some of their programes as podcasts...

Post 10 by Mongwen (Newborn Zoner) on Sunday, 10-Jul-2005 15:11:53

I like the shire news network podcast at http://tuatara.blogmatrix.com/
It's political and one of the guys who posts at silentrunning.tv hosts it.
If I had the cash, I'd subscribe to ---Sha'i ben-Tekoa's podcasts at http://deprogramprogram.com
"DeProgram Program offers SbT's 5 weekly broadcasts of political, religious and cultural commentary on the Arab-Israeli conflict, Arab terrorism, Islamic
fundamentalism and related topics, webcast from Judea in the Land of Israel.

Each program runs around 40 minutes, Sundays through Thursdays--but not on Jewish holy days, or three weeks in the fall, and one week in the spring, when
SbT, like any working stiff, takes a vacation."

Can you tell I'm a political junky?

I know this is an old thread, but I haven't been on for a while, so thought I'd respond anyway. Some of my favorite podcasts include: This Week in Tech, podcheck weekly review, The Dragon Page podcasts, The Audio Collective, The Ponder Place, The Richard Vobes radio show, and probably a bunch of others I can't think of right now. Oh, and I suppose The Darcy And Holly Show, at www.darcyandholly.com, is also Okay too.

wow good topic. never saw this one so glad it was brought back Lol .. I've never been into the podcasts cos I have such an old puter that they still use the smaller hard drives, and i'd fear it may fill up too quick! but in saying that I do realize with the client/s ya can allow it to check your hard drive space before hand. I may get into them. didn't know blindkiss had one! they are very amusing :) and Main menu is also a show I really value. haven't got any client yet. what's the latest one? :) and it's a shame the HTML didn't work for you. that would have been good! :)

Post 14 by season (the invisible soul) on Saturday, 26-May-2007 10:28:09

I have a question. On amazon.com there are podcasts. I for anything though do not see the links to them to put in to juice. Can someone assist me?

Post 22 by chikorita (move over school!) on Monday, 18-Feb-2008 23:36:22

yeah I like the same stuff as download in post 17 I think. for the links: Click here to go the blind cool tech website, and if you like it there's a subscribe link. for main menu, I'm not really sure, but go to The ACB radio website then click "on demand" then main menu and main menu live. think they have a subscribe link there. for kelly sapergias podcast, the website is ksapergia.net I think, and his podcast feed can be found Here.

Post 23 by chikorita (move over school!) on Monday, 18-Feb-2008 23:39:04

Whoa, a post from me, amazing!
Some of my favorites are Blind Cool Tech, The New York Mets podcast, the Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy casts (every week when there's a new episode the writers and actors discuss the show and what's coming next) and several of the offerings from NPR. I just had to re-download my podcatcher onto a new computer so I'm re-subscribing to a lot of them. I'll have to check out some of the ones you guys've suggested.

Post 31 by mysticrain (Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature.) on Monday, 03-Mar-2008 18:40:39

I just started getting into podcasts last week as a matter of fact. Some of the ones I've found and enjoy so far are pseudopod, mugglecast, and blast the right.
I'm looking for a more middle of the road political podcast if anyone knows and can let me know. One where both liberal and conservative views are represented and debated upon.
Also, can anyone recommend a jaws accessible podcast client? For the moment, I've been going to the websites, but that's going to get old real quick having to do that every week.
For anyone who is new to podcasts and wants to check out a veritey to get started, check out podcastalley.com
Thanks

Jen

Also, does anyone know of a blind gamers podcast? One that discusses accessible games or mainstream games that the blind can play?
Thanks
Jen
